OHURA DISTRICT NEWS
ST. ANDREW’S GUILD. St Andrew’s Anglican Guild at Ohura organised a young people’s social evening on Friday in the schoolroom. A fine programme was presented. There was also dancing and competitions. Mrs. Franklin, Hawke’s Bay sang “My Ain Folk.’’ Her rich contralto, voice was greatly appreciated. The encore was “There’s a Song Down Every Roadway.” Miss Bathe Luttrill, Bay of Plenty, sang two Maori ballads. Elocutionary items were given by Miss Paddy Jenks. Mrs. Allen played the accompaniments. Miss Butcher at the piano led community singing. Dance music was supplied by Miss Barbara Wagstaff and Mr. N. F. Roberts. Amongst those present were Mesdames Hedley, Loft, Franklin, Brown, Allen, Jenks, Gee, Hibberd, Gould, Webber, Milne and Anderson, Misses Craven, Butcher, Howie, Luttrell, Mulvey, Webber (2), Franklin (2), Jenks (2), Brown, Smith, Butcher and Wagstaff. The Rev. Marks and Mr. J. E. Jenks were masters of ceremonies. Supper was provided by guild members. The social was so successful that it was decided to hold a function monthly witii the intervening weeks to be filled with a dancing class for juniors and games alternately. Social Items.
Mrs. Franklin and the Misses Franklin, Hawke’s Bay, are visiting Ohura and are the guests of Mrs. Franklin’s mother, Mrs. Hedley Loft. Mrs. Mary Williams entertained at bridge on Friday evening. Mrs. Tippins, Frankleigh Park, has returned to her home after visiting her daughter, Mrs. Jack Evans. Mrs. Lindsay Craven is visiting Ohura end is the guest of Mrs. H. Craven. Miss Denison, of the Taumarunui hospital, and Misses Workman and Byrne, formerly of Taumarunui and Stratford hospitals respectively, are visiting Ohura. They are the guests of Mrs. George Denison. Miss Bathe Luttrell, Waimana, is also visiting Mrs. Loft. Mrs. Koorey senr. and Misses Rose and Eve Koorey are visiting New Plymouth. Mr. Roy Millen, Bank of New Zealand, has left for an extended holiday in Queensland. Mr. A. F. Small has succeeded to his position. Mr. E. E. McLoughlin has left for Silverdale. Before leaving he was farewelled by his colleagues of the postal staff and made a presentation.
