HASTINGS PLAN FAILS
SWAN-SONG OF FARM SCHEME. MINISTER CRITICISED. Hastings, June 20. “I am here to-night to sing the swansong of the Hastings small farm settlement scheme,” said Mr. H. R. French at last evening’s annual meeting of the Hastings Chamber of Commerce. 'Mr. French is the chairman of a committee of representatives of the chamber and of various farmers’ organisations appointed to investigate the possibilities of a settlement scheme of which Mr. French was chiefly the originator, and last evening he read to the meeting the correspondence which had passed between his committee arid the Minister of Lands, Hon. E. A. Ransom._ After Mi- .French had iriade his report the meeting adopted the following resolution on the motion of Mr. W. E. Bate:— “That this meeting expresses its regret that the Minister of Lands has not seen fit to appreciate or to utilise the Chamber of Commerce Small Farms Committee which has been acting in the past and doing excellent work.” The resolution included also an expression of thanks to the committee for their work, and will be forwarded to the Minister of Lands.
