NIHO NIHO DISTRICT NEWS

AGRICULTURAL ASSOCIATION. A meeting of the Ohura A.P,H. and G. Association was held at Niho Niho or. Monday, Mr. Goldfinch presiding over about 15 members. The last show proved definitely that there was a future for the association if it followed out on the right lines and it was the general feeling of the meeting that Mr. F. Pleasants, secretary, should be sent to Palmerston North to attend the meeting of secretaries of A. and P. Associations on June 14. “We do not want to be like the boy who stays at home and thinks that no one can do it but father,” said Mr. Goldfinch. “I feel quite sure if we want to go ahead we must exchange ideas and I have no doubt some valuable ideas will be gained by Mr. Pleasants at the conference.” A request from the Ohura Boys and Girls’ Agricultural Clubs that next year two special prizes be awarded yearling club calves was granted. The sections will be included in the next schedule. Mr. S. Stevenson’s proposal that if he were given sufficient high land on which to move his house the association could take over his quarter-acre section was given a sympathetic hearing. It was realised the fear of a flooded house was always present and that the present site of the house would make an ideal entrance to the grounds. It was decided to have a day meeting to inspect the section and proposed site. Social Evening. Mr. Woodhouse held a social evening in the hall for the children last Tuesday. There was a good attendance and a pleasant time was spent. Novel gamea added a great deal to the fun of the evening. School Sports. The children of the Niho Niho school motored to Ohura on Wednesday afternoon and played Ohura at basketball and football during the dinner hour. These games were fixed for next Saturday morning but the teachers and parents agreed that if playing in the frost could be possibly avoided it should be done. The girls were fairly evenly matched at basketball but Ohura came to light the last few minutes and added two goals, the final score being 5 to 3. The Niho Niho football team had a comfortable win over Ohura. Pammint and Christensen did most of the scoring. Irving kicked a fine penalty goal. This win gave Niho Niho four points for the bahner. Heao has 4, Ohura A 2, Ohura 0 and Matiere 0.
