EXPERIMENTAL WIRELESS
BRITISH OFFICIAL’S THEORY TRANSMISSION VIA SOUTH POLE, RIVAL METHODS DEMONSTRATED. By Telegraph—Press Association. Wellington, Last Night. A special test to New Zealand was radiated by the British Broadcasting Corporation’s Empire station this morning. Mr. Malcolm Frost, of the British Broadcasting Corporation, interviewed to-night, said: “Although I regret that the test from a listener’s point of view was unsatisfactory it proved of great experimental value, for it demonstrated the rival merits of two different methods of transmission. “It has bejen suggested that a programme to Zone' 3 reaches New Zealand listeners via the South Pole and not along the direct path. This would partly account for the fact that transmissions to Africa are comparatively well received in New Zealand while those ‘beamed’ to Australia and New Zealand are received at very'poor signal strength. .Further experiments will be made during the next few months.” Mr. Frost left for Auckland to-night. He will leave New Zealand for Australia in about three weeks and later continue his tour to India and the Far East.
