WORLD’S LARGEST DOG. Big Ben, the giant Russian boar-hound, is a descendant of the giant dogs that were attached to the mountain gun section of the Russian army. They were used to pull mountain guns over hills and through forests where horses could not go. Big Ben is bigger than a pony, and is spotted like a leopard, being as Qocile as a lamb. Any child) going to see him can have a free ride. Showing in conjunction with Ben Is Big Bertha, the canine giantess. Ben and Bertha will be on exhibition at the Taranaki winter show, which will be held at New Plymouth from June 6 until June 9.

NATIONAL DAIRY SHOW. It has always been readily conceded that the classes provided at the winter show covering •. the art and industrial division are compiled on generous and comprehensive lines, with the result taat competition at Palmerston North has always been keen. This year’s schedule again covers a wide Tenge in which experts with the needle and knitting pins can display their skill and ability in the making of useful and ornamental articles for the home. In the home cookery department. a full range of choice is provided for housewives and the younger generation who are aspiring to that important position in life, to demonstrate their capabilities in the most important science connected with the material aspect of housekeeping. Prizes in all classes are liberal and generously supplemented by valuable trophies and special classes are provided for novices and children. In the photography section there is ample scope, given in the open and amateur sections in the variety of subject catalogued for the wide range of skill in this captivating art.
