■ EUCIffiE PARTY AND DANCE.-The-second, of a.series-’of six-euchre parties'and dances was held in the Matapu hall on Tuesday, when there was- a good attendance, card enthusiasts being present from Eltham, Okaiawa and Normanby. Prizes for the evening were won by Miss Ivy Robertson 1, Miss R. Seed 2; Mr. Tom Huckstep 1, Mr. <p. Graydon (Normanby) 2. After the euchre the hall was cleared for dancing, music being supplied by Miss M. Guy, while an “extra” was played by Miss B. Seed. A very pleasant evening was spent at the residence of Mr. and Mrs. L, Cleaver’s last week on the occasion of the coming of age of their daughter Hazel, also the birthday of Mr. Cleaver senior, who has reached the age of 83. The evening was spent with cards, games and dancing. After supper the toasts were honoured, Mr. Cleaver senior responding. Amongst those present were Mr. and Mrs. L. Cleaver, Mr. and Mrs. S. Marx, (Mangatoki), Mr. and Mrs. J. Free (Kaponga), Mr. and Mrs. W. Bennie (Mangatoki), Mr. and Mrs. Cleaver senior (Normanby), Mrs. Free senior, Mr. and Mrs. Cleaver (Eltham), Misses Hazel, Zena and Avis Cleaver, S. and W. Gatenby, E. Bridgewood (Okaiawa), N. Rowlands, A. Giddy, Messrs. W. Gatenby, T. and E. Guy, S. and A. Cleaver, D. Giddy, C. Cleaver (Eltham), D. Blair, R. Henry and H. Thomas. The Eltham school B football team on Saturday visited Matapu and played' a match. The Matapu boys were much heavier and won easily by 26 to riiL Scores for Matapu were gained by G. Luke (4), T. Treweek (2), and C. Simpson (1), Luke converting (1). Keighley also converted a try.

A match was also played between the Eltham A basketball team and the Matapu team. The ground was very slippery. After a good game Eltham were the winners by 8 goals to nil. The Matapu boys played the Eltham A team at Eltham on Thursday and after a hard struggle Matapu was the winner by 6 to nil. The girls also played their return basketball match and the game ended in a draw 4-all.
