NEW PLYMOUTH HARRIERS

RUN HELD FROM FITZROY BEACH. GYMNASIUM CLASSES BEGUN. Owing to the inclemency of the weather there was a small muster of only eighteen for the New Plymouth Harriers Club weekly run which was from Fitzroy beach on Saturday afternoon. Those who turned out found the conditions better than were expected and a good course of about six miles was covered. Leaving the beach the course taken was up Beach Street and on to Paynter's Lane, which was followed to the top end, where the pacemakers, T. White and R. Stewart, Ibd the pack across country for about half a mile before coming out on Mangorei Road. The course brought the runners to , the borough reserve, through which they ran across the Waiwakaiho. Carrying on across country the harriers came out on Smart Road about one mile from the main road. A steady run brought them down just by the bridge, where the whistle was blown to call a halt. After a short walk the running was resumed and on reaching Clemow Road the pack turned and followed it down past the abattoirs and along the river bank down to the beach. After a steady run the pack arrived home well pleased with the afternoon’s work.

Next Saturday the run will be from Westown school.

The harriers met at the boys’ high school gymnasium for the gym. class on Wednesday night and a strenuous hour and a half was spent. Mr. F. J. Eggleton put the members through three-quar-ters of an hour of physical drill and then Mr. Sykes took over for the remainder of the evening on the gymnasium work. The classes are to start at 7 p.m. sharp..
