WOMEN’S INSTITUTE GROUP

MEETING AT MANGATOKI. The first group meeting of the Women’s Institute since the inauguration of the Taranaki federation was held at Mangatoki Hall, on Thursday afternoon. The group comprises Mangatoki, Eltham, Ngaere and Kaponga. Mrs. A. E. Mahon presided over an attendance of 60 members, all branches being well represented. Mrs. Kaye, federation president, was present by invitation. The object of the group system is to make possible demonstrations which could not be arranged for by separate branches. Mr. Crutch, Hawera, demonstrated cutting and making loose covers for furniture,> interestingly stressing the. needs for such and the choice of material. Questions were invited during the demonstration, adding greatly to the benefits derived therefrom. Mr. Crutch cut and put together a cover. Mrs. Mahon expressed the thanks of the group for the demonstration.

Mrs. Kaye briefly addressed the meeting regarding group meetings and matters concerning the coming show in which the institute is taking part. The presidents of each branch also spoke, Mesdames Brewer (Kaponga), Bridger (Eltham) and Harre (Ngaere).'Miss Coleman, group convener, called for nominations for next group meeting chairwoman, Mrs. Harre being elected. The afternoon tea was arranged by the hostesses, Mesdames C. E. McGuinness, Gatenby and Bootten, Misses Sulzberger and Beech.
