PROVISIONS IN AUSTRALIA YEAR’S PRODUCTIVE WORKS VICTORIA CORDITE FACTORY EXTENSIONS AT CANBERRA By Telegraph—Press Assn.—CopyrightRec. 11 p-m. Canberra, May 26. Mr. J. A. Lyons, Federal Prime Minister,’ in the House of Representatives outlined the works being commenced shortly by the Commonwealth and State Governments to relieve unemployment. The States will spend £12,000,000 on reproductive works in 1933-34. The Commonwealth works include the building of a naval sloop and a cordite factory in Victoria. The Minister of Defence says the Government hopes when the new cordite factory has been built that naval shells will be supplied to New Zealand and the British fleet in the Far East. The Sydney Morning Herald says provision is being made in the Budget for a big building programme for Canberra with the object of transferring public servants from Melbourne, -loney also will be spent on the construction and improvement of aerodromes and the strengthening of coastal defences.
