Seeking leave to introduce a bill in the House of Commons prohibiting the importation of German goods as part of the international sanctions under the Covenant of the League, Mr. G. Mander (Liberal—Wolverhampton) said that in no circumstances could the re-armament of Germany be permitted. Sir Austen Chamberlain (Conservative —Birmingham) said that the House was asked to .do an unprecedented and grave thing. He fully realised the dangers of the spirit shown in Germany in the past few weeks, but the step now proposed should not be submitted ahead of an emergency.
