OBLIGATIONS OF TRUCK OWNERS. rpHE Commissioner of Transport de- ' •*' sires to bring to the notice of all motor carriers the following important ■ points in connection with the licensing s of motor trucks:— CARRIERS WHO HAVE NOT YET MADE APPLICATION: The new pro- ' visions come into operation on June 1 next. After that date any person running a motor-truck carrying goods for hire or reward over five miles or more of main or secondary highway outside an exempted area will require a Goods Service License. Operators who have ! applied for licenses by June 1 will be . entitled to carry on until their applica- . tions are dealt with. Those who do not apply by June 1 will be subject to heavy penalties if they run for five miles or more along highways outside exempted areas after that date. It is important therefore that all carriers who have not already done so should forward their applications to the Commissioner of Transport before June 1. The necessary forms of application are obtainable at any office of the Public Works Department or from the Commissioner of Transport, Wellington. TEMPORARY LICENSES: A temporary license will be required in the case of special trips by unlicensed operators and trips by those who have applied for Continuous Licenses but wish to take goods outside the area or route shown in their applications as the normal sphere of their operations. It is realised that Temporary Licenses will often be required at very short notice and special arrangements have therefore been made to facilitate dealing with them. The licenses will be issued by Postmasters who are also Deputy Registrars of Motor-Vehicles, and operators should apply to such Postmasters , accordingly, the applications being accompanied by the prescribed fee of 2s 6d in respect of each vehicle authority required.
