Mrs. E. Reid, who has been visiting the South Island and Wellington for several Otonths, returned home on Thursday. Mrs. H. Davies, who has been visiting Mrs. R. J. Matthews, left on Thursday for Wanganui on her return to Hastings. Miss Irene Hirst and Miss M. Beckett, who have been spending the vacation with Mrs. T. G. Hirst, leave to-day on their return to Wellington. Mrs. G. Pearce. Wanganui, is the guest of Mrs. France, Ridge Lane. Miss Patricia Fitzherbert, Auckland, is the guest of Mrs. W. H. Moyes. Mias Nancy Blundell has arrived from Wellington on a visit to Miss Margaret Fraser. Miss Maisie Bruce, who has been the guest of Mrs. F. S. Grayling, has returned to Wanganui. Miss K. Airey and Miss M. Hart, Lawrence (South Island), are the guests of Mrs. D. N. McKay. Mrs. R. George is spending several days at Auckland. McKenzie, Palmerston North, is visiting friends at New Plymouth. Miss Leita Gibb-Brown, formerly on the nursing staff of the New Plymouth public hospital, has left for Wanganui and Te Puke. Mrs. M. Kirkby has returned from several weeks’ holiday at Auckland. Mrs. Claude Taylor entertained last evening at a “kitchen” party in honour of Miss Doreen Watkins. Mrs. George Webster has returned from Auckland. Mrs. D. Perkins is visiting Wellington. Miss Beulah Hartnell leaves to-day on her return to Wellington. Among the visitors here for the Coster Cabaret on Thursday were Miss M. Malone, Mrs. W. Shaw, Misses B„ Z. and O. Masters, Miss Joan Coleman and Miss B. McKay (Stratford), and Miss E. Buist (Hawera). Mw. Hunter, Auckland, is the guest of Mrs. M. G. Thomas, Hamblyn Street Mrs. G. Rich was hostess at bridge on Wednesday night for Miss Marjory Sladden. Mrs. P. Pritchard and Miss Margaret Pritchard have arrived from Dannevirke on a visit to Miss C. Leatham. Mrs. Trevor Simpson, Auckland, is also her guest. Mrs. Tancred, who has been visiting her daughters at Sydney, has returned home. Her sister, Mrs. H. Taylor, who had been on holiday at Sydney, left on her return for New Guinea last week. ,Miss Molly Boyd, who has been the guest of her aunt, Mrs. W. D. Thomson, has left New Plymouth to stay in- the Wairarapa and at Wellington before returning to her home at Dunedin. Mrs., C. H. Burgess, Mrs. Sidney Burgess, Mrs. Neill, Mrs. F. G. Evans, Mrs. A. C. H. Collins and Miss Baker were present with the speakers at the children’s Empire Day gathering at Pukekura Park on Wednesday. Mrs. Collins, who instigated the scheme, placed a wreath on the Queen Victoria memorial on behalf of the Victoria League, and Mrs. Evans recited a patriotic poem, "The Flag.” Mrs. L. H. Knuckey, Tikorangi, entertained at bridge on Saturday night. The bright fire and huge bowls of autumntinted flowers made a charming setting for the players. The hostess received her guests wearing a black lace frock. Those present were Mesdames Hamblyn, Middleton, Nosworthy, Thorpe, Elliott, L. Sampson, Pritchard, Peat, H. Foreman, Bevan, B. Jury and Wells. The prizewinners were Mrs. Middleton and Mr. E. L. Thorpe. Miss Norma West was the guest of honour to a surprise birthday party given by her young friends at the Y.W.C.A. Hall on Monday evening. During an interval in the dancing the guest was presented with a Victorian posy and received congratulations from all present During the week Miss Norma West was the guest of honour at a jolly surprise birthday party arranged by Misses J. Gable and J. Pepperell. Ah enjoyable time was spent with dancing and games. A Monte Carlo fox-trot was won by Miss M. Kurta and partner. At the conclusion of the supper Mr. Basil Hirst presented the guest with a bouquet The music was supplied by Mr. F. Boulton and Messrs Humphries and Tremlett were 'masters of ceremonies. In an endeavour to encourage New Plymouth girls to take a keener interest in sports the Y.W.C.A. has inaugurated "games nights” in which instruction will be given in basketball, hockey, volleyball and teams’ games. Good instructors will attend these rallies, which should prove of great interest to girls. HUIRANGI NOTES. ANNUAL TENNIS DANCE. In spite of the inelement weather there was a large crowd at the Huirangi Hall on Tuesday night for the annual tennis dance. The Monte Carlo was won by Miss C. Richards and Mr. B. Wells, junr., while Miss Kaine and Mr. Richards were the winners of the spot waltz. McNeil’s New Dance Band was in attendance and the duties of master of ceremonies were carried out by" Messrs. B. Wells and T. Frank. Extras were played by Mrs. H. Giddy, Miss E. Kibby and Mr. Rogers. PERSONALS. Mrs. F. Mace has returned from a holiday at Oakura. Mrs. W. Eustace returned home last week-end.
