GENERAL AND PERSONAL ITEMS.' The Tikorangi library committee held its annual meeting on Monday night, when there was an attendance of 13. In the chair was Mr. Henry Alexander. The secretary, Mr. Bert Foreman, read the annual report, it showed a further decrease in the credit balance owing to expenses being greater than the annual subscriptions. The following officers were elected: Chairman, Mr. H. Alexander; secretary, Mr. B. Foreman; librarian, Mr. W. J. Metcalf (who with Messrs C. Hoyle and W. L. Faull formed the committee). The new committee appointed Messrs B. Foreman and H. Alexander as trustees. The librarian was authorised to obtain new books, including juvenile books, to encourage further enrolments from the school children. The committee of the Tikorangi Women’s Institute, comprising Miss L. Pruden (setretary) and Mesdames A. Jupp, A. Whitehead, C. Ritchie, R. Morey, T. Hine, J. Gamer, A. Beaven and Miss N. Langcley, met at the . hall on Tuesday afternoon. The chief business was the discussion of the - remits to be voted on by the delegate at the annual New Zealand Women’s Institute conference at Christchurch in July. Final arrangements were also made for the institute stall at the Hawera winter show, an exhibition of the work to be held at the hall on June 13. The Tikorangi troop of the Queen Alexandra Mounted Rifles, which has been in camp at Waverley since May 17, returned home on Wednesday night. The troop is to ba congratulated on winning the troop cup. This trophy is awarded to the best all-round troop in camp. Neither of the cups won last year was brought back as time did not allow those two cups to be competed for. Mr. C. W. Sarten, who was admitted to a private hospital at New Plymouth last week, is reported to be improving in health.

Miss Betty Sarten is. spending a short holiday at New Plymouth. Mrs. T. Bennetts has returned from a holiday spent at Midhirst. . The Tikorangi Card Club resumed play on Thursday morning, when the team met Bell Block at Tikorangi. The teams were: Bell Block, cribbage, Messrs B. Bracegirdle, J. Bethell, Thompson, Jefferson, G. Way, W. Hoskin, M. Gray, Newell; euchre, F. Holmes, S. Franks, W. Holmes, G. Giddy, J. Bailey, Franks jun., R. Sampson and B. Sampson. Tikorange, cribbage, B. Foreman, A. Allen, R. Soffe, A. Soffe, Henry Alexander, C. Foreman, C. A. R. L. Soffe, W. Soffe; euchre, R. C. Jury, T. O’Carroll, A. Tiplady, J. O’Carroll, Alec. White, R. J. Morey, L. Hodson and G. Foreman. The games resulted as follows:: Bell Block, cribbage 24, euchre 23; Tikorangi, cribbage 19, euchre 13. Tikorangi is to meet Brixton next week, the games with Waitara Freezing Works having been abandoned last week owing to Tikorangi being unable to raise a team.
