MR. COATES DENIES RUMOURS. APPEAL MADE TO PEOPLE. By Telegraph—Press Association. Wellington, Last Night. An emphatic denial of rumours tjiat a fall in rates of exchange was imminent was given by the Rt. Hon. J. G. Coates in an interview to-night. These rumours were entirely without foundation, said Mr. Coates. It was necessary to warn the public that in some instances at least such rumours had been circulated for interested purposes. The conditions that had necessitated the raising of the exchange had not improved, World prices showing a further decline in recent weeks, though there had been some definite signs of improvement. It was important that business should not be hampered by uncertainty. He therefore asked all interests to take the situation as they found it and assist, by ignoring unconfirmed reports.
