“THIN EDGE OF WEDGE"

RESTRICTIONS UPON MILK WAIKATO MANAGER’S OPINIONS. DANGEROUS PRECEDENT SEEN. By 1 Telegraph-Press Association. Hamilton, May 25. •- “It looks very much like the thin end of the'wedge,” stated Mr, C. J. Parlane, general manager of the New Zealand Dairy Co., to-day when interviewed regarding the London cablegram stating that New Zealand had accepted Britain’s proposal to restrict shipments of whole and skim mills powder during June, July and August. Mr. Parlane was extremely surprised, particularly because as the largest manufacturer of milk powder in the Dominion, his company had been consulted and was definitely opposed to the suggested restriction on the grounds that it would create a dangerous precedent. The actual restrictions of shipments during the months mentioned were not a serious matter, Mr. Parlane said, but it looked like the thin edge of the wedge, and consequently he would not be surprised to see more definite demands made for restrictions of New Zealand butter and cheese exports.
