FAREWELL SOCIAL EVENING. Members of St. Andrew s Anglican Church choir gathered at the Inglewood vicarage on’ Tuesday night to farewell Mr. P. Peacock, who has been a member of the choir for a number of years and who will be leaving the. district, shortly. Games, music and competitions were enjoyed. Songs were sung by Miss Mutter, Mrs. Harrington and Mr. Peacock, and pianoforte duets were played by Miss Wilson and Mrs. Harrington. The vicar, the Rev. C. W. Mutter, ’said Mr. Peacock had been a most enthusiastic member of the choir and a great worker for the church. He would be sadly missed by the Church of England in Inglewood. Mr. ' Mutter wished Mr. Peacock a happy future and hoped that he would take as great an interest in church matters at his future town as he had done at Inglewood. Helping the Needy.

A successful clothes drive was held at Inglewood on Saturday by the relief committee.. Working u. ter the leadership of the ministers of the town and the Mayoress (Mrs. J. Gibbs), the Boy Scouts made a house 7 to-house canvass with amazing results. The rest room was used as the depot where the clothing was sorted and at resent the Salvation Army League is making children’s garments - from clothing that would otherwise be of no use and a committee is patching and darning other clothing. Clothing is being received at the rest room.

The committee will meet on Monday to decide ways and means of raising funds for relief purposes during the coming winter. Mr. J. F. Ritchie, who has. been in the New Plymouth hospital for over a week, has returned to Inglewood.

TARIKI GENERAL AND PERSONAL. Owing to the exceptionally heavy and steady rains last week the main river in the Tariki district rose rapidly, several residents considering it the highest for ten years. Mr. J. Hucker, Surrey Road, lost one of his cows, apparently in the flood waters. A considerable amount of driftwood was carried along by the river. Mr. Reg. James, accompanied by . Mr. Hildred, senr., is visiting Auckland. Miss Jean Young has returned after an extended visit to her sister at Papakura.
