RESTRICTIONS ON MEAT

ASSURANCE FROM BRITAIN ARGENTINE QUOTA LIMITS AUSTRALIANS SATISFIED OTTAWA AGREEMENT KEPT By Telegraph—Press Assn.—Copyright. Canberra, May 2. The British Government had declared that it would strictly carry out the Ottawa agreement and would adjust the excess of imports of foreign bagged beef into England by reductions to be made during the remaining quarters of the year. Mr. F. H. Stewart, Minister of Commerce, has received this information from Mr. S. M. Bruce, Resident Australian Minister in London. Mr. Stewart stated that the position as it was now defined by the British Government fully met the objections raised by Australian meat exporters regarding the British-Argentine treaty, and producers throughout Australia could rest assured that both the letter and the spirit of the Ottawa agreement would be observed by the British Government. A London cable states that the BritishArgentine trade agreement was signed by Sir John Simon, Foreign Secretary, who is in bed with a chill and is seriously run down.
