TARIKI DISTRICT NEWS

GENERAL AND PERSONAL. The Tariki basketball club’s first dance of the season last Thursday was a success, an enjoyable time being spent by all. Music was rendered by Messrs. H. Humphries (piano), J. Harris (saxophone) and F. Hill (violin), extras being played by Messrs. T. Wright, D. Therkleson and F. Hill. Mr. J. Trass was master of ceremonies. A Monte Carlo waltz was won by Mrs. J. Mahon (Ross Road) and Mr. Day (Rugby Road). Non-dancers played euchre. Mr. Adlam senr. (Midhirst), playing as a lady, won first prize and while three tied for second place, Mrs. J. Scott (Inglewood) winning. Messrs. H. Gush 1 and Master L. Davis (Rugby Road) 2 won the men’s prizes. Supper provided by members and friends was served by the club. At a meeting of the management committee of the Tariki Sports and Pastimes Club, presided over by Mr. W. J. Byrne (chairman), the report and balance sheet of the 10-a-side football tournament held on Easter Monday was produced, showing a nett profit of over £l7. This was considered very gratifying, as it was the first year the tournament had been held. Thanks were accorded Mr. Cassidy for his donation of the cup for annual competition. It was decided to hold a boxing and wrestling contest in June. The club had now most of the gear required for this class of sport, it was stated. Mr. J. Fryday has donated a cup for the most. improved wrestler attending the club’s practices. While playing football against Midhirst last Thursday Mr. R. Rumball received an injury to his left hand, which necessitated medical attention. The exact extent of the injury will not be known until an X-ray examination is made. The following will represent Tariki juniors at rugby against Pukengahu at Tariki to-morrow: B. Harkness, Corietts (3), Martin, K. Butler, Keegan, F. Hill, M. Kilsby, G. Goodwin, R. Welch, H. Loveridge, I. McCullum, R. Therkleson, Huzziff; emergencies, D. Evans and Stevens. Mrs. Izett, Kaponga, paid a visit to her mother, Mrs. T. Humphries, Tariki Road, during the week. Misses D. McCullum and D. James are spending a holiday at New Plymouth.
