BIRTH OF A NEW ERA.

(To the Editor.) Sir,— Accompanied by violent pains both physical and mental the world today is being born into a new era. What should be a natural event in our evolution is complicated because the masses suffer from lack of sound leadership. But in spite of this, in ten years from now a new era will be well born. Even a hundred years ago the leaders of the world could see nothing for the world of 1933 but terrible famines and desolation. With the old method of production, ploughing in green crops, etc., the lands of the earth were fast going back, and at the same time the population was increasing enormously. The outlook did indeed look black. But they reckoneji

without science. The enormous production of the present time could, if all the world was under intense cultivation, be multiplied 50 times over. And yet the world was never so miserable. Thanks to education man is a better worker to-day than ever in his history. Surely then there must be something ' artificially stopping man’s progress. There is, and its name is gold. 1 Man is stupidly trying to hang' a new era structure on to the old frame which 1 has outlived its usefulness, if it, ever 1 did have any usefulness. Why is he - trying to do this stupid thing?' Simply because his real leaders are men with a lust for power—power which the control of the world’s gold alone can give them. They have paid up to £6. an ounce for this same gold, the banishment of which from the world’s economic structure would mean their financial ruin, as well as destroying for ever their ambition of owning the world bodily. There is only one way that the world can march on to its wonderful destiny, and that is by loading all the gold into ships and dropping it into the bottomless Pacific Ocean —that is, tne part the moon originally occupied. If this were done the control of the world would automatically go back to where it belongs, namely, the people’s Governments, who could then fearlessly issue money based on the real wealth of the world, which is not gold, but what man needs to keep mind, body and soul together in a healthy whole. For these things decent men are willing to work, and die if necessary. If it was not for this fact the outlook for the world would indeed be black. What the world sadly lacks is Christian leadership against the real yellow peril, which is gold. We are to-day swimming in a terrible river whose banks are lined with faith, hope, charity and plenty, but we cannot reach the shore because there is a huge gold stone attached to our necks by awful chains of greed. On our backs rides a hookednose goblin who by jumping on the stone whenever he feels like it ducks our heads under—in other words, a slump. The day we break the chain and let the gold stone , sink for ever is the day we will reach the shore and the birth of a new era, an era which Christian principles alone have made possible. Personally, if I were running this country to-morrow (with its enormous production per head) I guarantee I would inside three months have everyone happy and secure in homes and on farms, and this without wiping out existing mortgages as advocated by some , destructive politicians, thereby throwing on to the streets our pioneers who have well earned their rest as well as a lot of other genuine people who have put : their money into industry. There is an old saying about hitching your cart to a star, and the modem version of this , will have to be hitch your money issue to the production of real wealth. . If man works hard and production rises the money issue rises with it, or vice versa.—l am, etc., W. C. HICKEY. Oaonul, April 19.
