CONDUCTOR FAREWELED

PRESENTATION AT OPUNAKE. A happy function took place in the Opunake Federal Band room pn Monday, when members gathered to bid farewell to Mr. R. Henderson, who has been the band’s conductor for some considerable time, but who is now leaving the district. Mr. F. Julian, president, in proposing the health of their departing guest, said it was regretable to see the departure of such a capable conductor as Mr. Henderson, but Opunake’s loss would be another district’s gain. He referred to Mr. J. Humphries, who. had also been the band’s conductor for many years, and other older members who had all helped to bring the band.up to efficiency. In making the presentation of a travelling rug Mr. Julian wished Mr. Henderson the best of good luck, arid said that the gift Would recall fond memories of his association with the Opunake Federal Band.

Mr. Henderson said he was very grateful to the members for their gift, and extended a welcome to all to visit him at his home in the South Island. He advised the members to “carry on” despite the fact that he was leaving the district. He wished the band every success, and would still be interested in its progress. It always had been a great pleasure to him to work with such a happy band of men, the discipline and general conduct of the members being very good.
