. GENERAL AND PERSONAL ITEMS. The Tikorangi troop of Queen Alexandra's Mounted Rifles held a parade on Thursday evening, when general instruction was carried out under the supervision of Lieut. Surrey. During the evening arrangements were made to hold a dance in the Tikorangi hall, the following being elected as the dance committee: Messrs. Surrey (chairman), E. R. Andrews and M. R. Faull (joint honorary secretaries), W. P. Cole. J. Hills. M. Eward and Ron Rolf. During the weekend an exhibition was given to the troop at Mr; _C. Bamitt’s residence by the New Plymouth, defence staff. The troop, with the Waitara platoon of the Taranaki

Regiment, was shown the capability of the Vickers machine-gun, Lewis gun, Hotchkiss light automatic gun and the Webley pistol. There was a large attendance. and all were most interested. The reefs were used as a target, affording excellent practice in judging distance. Women's Institute. On Friday two car loads of members of the Tikorangi Women’s Institute motored to Eltham to attend the first annual meeting of the Taranaki Federation of Women’s Institutes. Two Tikorangi members, Mrs. R. Morey and Mrs. A. Whitehead, were elected to the Taranaki executive committee for the coming year. The Tikorangi delegate won, from the 14. institutes represented, the trophy for the best three-minute report on the work of institutes during the past six months, the reports being judged by popular vote.. The annual householders’ meeting was held at the school on Monday evening, vzhen, owing probably to the wet night, only an average attendance was present. The following were elected to the committee: Messrs/ T. Hine (chairman), W. Faull (honorary secretary), J. Garner. L. Lye, A. Soffe and T. R. Vickery. Mr. Metcalf, headmaster, stated that the school attendance was being well maintained. The boys and girls’ plots had been inspected by Mr. J. Allen and Mr. Metcalf, and were reported to be most satisfactory. The committee had started school ground improvements, the shingle needed for the new car drive being at the school. The work was to be done by unemployed labour, it was stated at the meeting. Mr. J. Purdy left during the week-end for a short shooting holiday at Mahoenui. Messrs. V. Whitehead and N. Terril have returned from the New Plymouth public hospitaL •
