CHURCH’S 61ST. ANNIVERSARY. ST. GEORGE’S CHURCH, PATEA. The sixty-first patronal anniversary of St. George’s Church, Patea, was celebrated on Saturday, when the children of the parish with joined hands in the old English ceremony of “clipping the bounds,’’ sang “We. love the place. O’ God.” ‘ After the church service, tea was served at the supper rooms.; The red and white of the flag of St. George were chosen for the exquisite decorations carried out in dahlias, whilst the . red cross on a white ground was repeated in flowers flanking the birthday cake. Surmounting the cake, which was given by the Mayoress, Mrs. F. Ramsbottom, were six large candles representing the decades and one small candle the year just concluded. A link with the church’s earliest history was established when Mr. Walton called on the three youngest grandchildren of the church’s oldest parishioners to light the candles. This was done by Geoffrey Honeyfield, Teddy Horner and. Dudley Carey, representing the Honeyfield, Hirst and Carey- families, whose association with the parish is spread over several generations. - Regretting the absence. of Mrs. Matt. Carey through ill-health, the vicar called on Mrs. Beamish, who was the first bride to be married in the old church, to blow out the candles and cut the cake. As a souvenir of the occasion the large candles were presented to Mesdames Honeyfield sdnr., R. A. Adams, J. Beamish, A. J. Cooper, W. White and F. Ramsbottom. The small candle was presented to Jean Richards, Alton, who was the last baby, to be., christened this year. Each child was given a piece of the cake. Mrs. W. White, formerly superintendent of the Sunday School, thanked the vicar for his conception of the idea for the anniversary celebration, which had been and inspiration. She hoped . that the church would enjoy an unending period of peace and prosperity. KAKARAMEA SCHOOL. IMPROVEMENT TO GROUNDS. The secretary of the Kakaramea School Committee reported that during the year a great deal of work had been done by the committee in improvements to the school property. Three hundred gum trees and 100 pines had been planted out and the piece of' ground (1J acres) in front of the school had been sown down with grass. Relief labour had been engaged to trim the hedges around the school. Three functions had been held—the breaking-up concert, a euchre and dance party-and an afternoon social. These all proved a success as the credit balance of £l3 Is 9d showed. The . special account was also in credit to the extent of £1 2s lOd. The following committee was elected: Messrs. L. G. Morris (chairman), K. Carmichael (secretary), Jim Kerrisk, Wilson, A. Ward. PERSONAL ITEMS. Mr. T.
