FARMING AT MANGOREI

ANNUAL MEETING OF UNION. The annual meeting of the Mangorei branch of the Farmers" Union was held on Saturday night, Mr. A. Busing presiding over a good attendance. The chairman referred, to the question of weeds and stressed the point that ragwort, unless stem measures were taken to combat its spread, would be a very serious menace. Mr. Busing extended congratulations to members who had won prizes in the field competitions, and expressed the opinion that although the district had not been actively identified with the competitions for as long as others, its crops compared very favourably. The expenses for the year had amounted to £8 9s lOd and the receipts totalled £ll 10s 7d. The credit balance at the bank was £l4 18s 4d.

Mr. Busing was re-elected president and Mr. G. Bennett vice-president. A committee was also appointed. Mr. H. E. Blyde, president of the North Taranaki provincial executive, was present and addressed the meeting. It was decided again to send a remit to the provincial conference urging that the export of second grade and whey butter be prohibited. A motion was passed taking strong exception to any quota system, except if pressure were brought to' bear by the people in Britain that the quota only apply to second grade and whey butters.
