Questions involving the embargoes on potatoes, fruit and vegetables proposed to be embodied in the new trade agreement between Australia and New Zealand are still subject to negotiations, and the agreement -will not be submitted for Parliamentary approval for some months, acording to a statement by Mr. J. A. Lyons, the Prime Minister, in reply to four members’ representatives, who formed a deputation to him and made strong representations against the rumoured lifting of the embargo on New Zealand potatoes. They asked Mr. Lyons to make a statement to allay the anxieties of potato growers regarding the future of the industry if they were exposed to the risk of disease and competition from -New Zealand when there v)as production in excess of local requirements in the Dominion.
