AT LEAST 120,000 WORKLESS

LABOUR PARTY LEADER’S CLAIM. PLAN TO CURE UNEMPLOYMENT. By Telegraph—Press Association. Dunedin, May 1. Mr. H. E. Holland, Leader of-the Labour Party, addressed a crowded meeting in the Town Hall las. evening. He asserted that there were at least 120,009 unemployed, and the number would probably be increased to 150,000 this winter. A Labour Government would transfer these to economic work at a standard wage. Mr.. Holland gave full details of Labour’s plan already announced, and attacked the “chronic obsession that the productive and distributive system of the country must be subservient to the, prevailing finance system,” whereas the reverse was necessary. Labour would make available the necessary credit in currency to rehabilitate industry, preventing inflation by a parallel increase in production. A unanimous vote of thanks was passed. Mr. Holland left for the north this morning.
