RAIN EXPECTED AT TIMES

NORTHERLY WINDS PREVAILING.

By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wellington, Last Night. The weather will be mainly fair to fine in eastern districts but elsewhere cloudy and overcast, with rain at times. Later there will probably be some heavy falls on the west coast of the South Island. Temperatures will be mild. Barometers remained fairly high over and to the east of the North Island. A shallow depression covers the South Island to-day, while a deep one has forced over the south-east of Australia. Winds will be variable at first in the South Island but elsewhere northerly winds will prevail, moderate to strong generally and of gale force in places. Seas in New Zealand waters will be rough about Cook Strait and elsewhere moderate, later rising on the west coast. In the eastern Tasman freshening north winds and moderate but rising seas are probable. *
