FRIENDLY GAMES PLAYED. As a preliminary canter to the Julian Cup competition, which will commence next week, several friendly soccer matches were played in North Taranaki

on Saturday. At Fitzroy Albion and Moturoa tried conclusions,, with the result that new material on both sides showed promise of good football and keen competition during the season. On the new ground at Waitara a very keen and interesting game resulted in Waitara winning by three goals to one. In the first spell good movements were set up on both sides, but two much hanging on to the ball by the Pirates’ forwards spoilt what might have resulted in goals. On the other hand fast, open combination was a feature of the Waitara team’s play and it was soon seen that it was by far the fitter team. Under the skillful captain, J. Wilson, future opponents will find Waitara will have to be held in respect. Defending _ for Pirates, .J. Ashton played a sterling game at left-back.
