MAN INJURED WHILE DIVING. (From Our Own Correspondent.) A painful accident befel Mr. Wera Ruakere while he was attending the Oeo school picnic. When diving Mr. Ruakere struck what at the time was believed to be a, stone, but was soon proved to be a broken bottle, in the bathing pool at Kaupokonui, immediately beneath the diving board. Mr. Ruakere, whose Up was badly cut, was immediately conveyed to Kaponga, where a number of stitches were inserted. Mr. Ruakere is reported to be progressing favourably.‘ ; The Oeo school annual picnic was held at Kaukokonui beach on March 3. In spite of the disappointing weather a good muster of children, parents and friends assembled. Swimming was enjoyed by a number. Races were won by the children, and cricket, rounders and other games were played. The children were given a lollie scramble and small prizes for running, each child receiving the equivalent of an ice cream. Owing to the success of Messrs. Holmes and Edwards in their house-to-house collection and the generosity of icsidents lunch and afternoon tea were again provided for all present.
