STRATFORD LADIES’ HOCKEY
CLUB’S ANNUAL MEETING. ARRANGEMENTS FOR SEASON. “You are very fortunate to have come through the year with a credit balance,” said the president, Mr. H. C. Johnson, in moving the adoption of the report and balance-sheet at the annual meeting of the Stratford Ladies’ Hockey Club last night. Mr. Johnson said he was pleased to see that the funds were spent on the players of that year. The year had been a successful one. both financially and on the field. The club had won the Catran Cup in a competition against 20 teams at Hawera on June 3, while the juniors had also put up a satisfactory performance in winning the Egmoht Cup. The president stressed the importance of the fact that a good junior team assured a good senior team the following season. Mr. Johnson also complimented the club on its containing several members who had been chosen as Taranaki representatives. New members elected were Misses F. Morrison, S. Lash, C. Whitmill, V. and D. Cook, C. Whittlestone, U. Mills, M. Major and E. Clark.
Officials were elected as follows: Patron, Mr. Percy Thomson; president, Mr. H. C. Johnson; vice-presidents, four elected; secretary, Miss C. Clark; club captain, Miss M. McCluggage; delegates to association, club captairi and secretary; dance committee, Misses G. Hale, M. Young, J. Whitmill, B. Watkins, M. Lash and the secretary ex officio. It was decided that the subscriptions stand as for the previous year, and that the club colours remain the same. The new season is to open on Thursday, March 30. Practices are to be held as during the last season. One senior and one junior team are to play. Votes of thanks were accorded the park caretaker and the drivers of the cars which conveyed the team to Kaponga. ELTHAM GOLF SEASON. OPENING DAY NEXT WEEK. The opening of the Eltham golfing season will take place next Thursday, when mixed foursomes will be played. The course is in excellent order and numerous improvements have been effected which should make good playing conditions. The clubhouse has been renovated and re-painted. It is proposed to again hold a tournament on June 3, last year’s event being so successful. Several new members are in prospect and a successful season is anticipated. The ladies’ club will hold the opening on March 28. The committee has inspected the course and is satisfied with its splendid condition. A few alterations. however, have yet to be made. There is a prospect of more young members joining and the membership should be at full strength. Mrs. A. J. Quin has resigned the position of club captain. GENERAL ITEMS. Avon Bowling Match.
