OHURA SCHOOLS VISITED

BOARD MEMBERS RETURN. PLEASED WITH WHAT THEY SATO After visiting 34 schools in the north and central wards of the Taranaki education district, including Ohura, Messrs. J. A. Valentine (deputy-chairman of the board), J. C. Barclay (chairman of the reserves committee), W. H. Jones (chairman of the finance committee), H. Dempsey, A. Bain (senior inspector) and the architect and secretary returned to New. Plymouth by car on Thursday evening. The tour commenced on Monday morning. On the way back through Ohura the party separated at the Pohokura Saddle, one car continuing along Junction Road and the other taking the Stratford-Ohura road. The schools along both routes were inspected. On the whole the roads throughout the trip were in good condition and there -was only one hitch on the journey. That was -on Monday, when the cars encountered a bad slip on the Kotare Saddle, approaching Waitaaonga. Thanks to the help provided by the chairman of the Ohura County Council the cars were able to overcome the obstacle with a minimum bf delay. A reporter was informed yesterday that the board members were very pleased with the manner in which the schools visited were being conducted and were gratified to note that the buildings were generally in a. good state of preservation. The children all appeared to be bright and happy. Mr., H. W. Insull, the secretary, will present a comprehensive report on.the trip at the.next meeting of the board. ' ■ •;•••
