WOMEN’S DIVISION NOTES

alton-kakaramea BRANCH. The Alton-Kakaramea branch of the Women’s Division of the Farmers’ Union held its monthly meeting on Tuesday, Mrs. W. E. Tayler presiding over an attendance of 35. Mesdames Nicholls and. Walker, Qtakeho, gave a demonstration on mocassin-making from calf cosheepskins. . Sympathy was expressed with Mrs. A, J. Gibbs in the bereavement in her family. A hearty welcome was extended to visitors from the Manakau branch, and from Kimbolton and Midhirst. Hostesses for the afternoon tea were Mesdames Tayler, Richardson, Nicholson, and Black, HURFORD ROAD MEETING. •• The monthly meeting of the Hurford Road branch of the Women’s Division of the Farmers’ Union was held on Tuesday. Mrs. Maloney presided over 16 members. A very interesting demonstration was given by Mr. . Walker and Miss Jensen on the making of wool mats. The branch has bought the material to make a mat which will be competed for. Mrs. A. E. Williams offered to make the mat. The hostesses for next month are Mrs. H. Marsh, Mrs. E. Seamark and Miss N, Berridge. After the business and demonstration afternoon tea. was served by the hostesses.

EGMONT VILLAGE BIRTHDAY.

The Egmont Village branch of the W.D.F.U. held its first birthday party on Tuesday. Nearly all the members attended and there were visitors from Ratapiko, Tarurutangi, and also several friends from Kent Road and Egmont Village. Mrs. Tebbutt (president) welcomed the visitors. A programme of music and games included songs by Miss Jean Morton, Mrs. H. Marsh and Mrs. Parker, and community singing- A competition, Things found on a penny," was won by Miss Hucker, Ratapiko. The jelly-making competition for the branch was won by Mrs. Wasley, At afternoon tea Mrs. Tebbutt cut the cake, and the visitors wished the Egmont Village ■ branch prosperity and “many happy returns,” Mrs. Bishop presented the cake, which was iced by Mrs. Adamson,

FIRST URENUI MEETING,

At the first Urenui branch meeting for the year Mrs. Phillips, on behalf of the members, extended greetings to Mrs, Johns and party from New Plymouth. Mrs. Johns gave a very interesting address on life in Singapore. Her description was very realistic and was greatly enjoyed by the members, A vote of thanks was passed. Afternoon tea was served. ’

At the monthly meeting of the Kaimiro branch Mrs. Pope presided over an attendance of 15. The balance-sheet was submitted and it was decided to send £" 10s to-the community chest fund, Mrs. Bennett, Lepper Road, gave a very interesting demonstration of painting with water colours. A vote of thanks was

passed to Mrs. Bennett. A competition for the best plate of scones was won by Mrs. A. H. Taylor first and Mrs. L. D. Taylor second, the prizes being donated by the judges, Mrs,. H, G. Taylor and Mrs. Bennett. Afternoon tea was served by the hostesses, Mrs. H. Gibson and Miss H. Gibson. ' - ■
