HOCKEY AT INGLEWOOD
MEN’S CLUB IN GOOD POSITION.
ANNUAL MEETING OF MEMBERS. The annual meeting of the Inglewood Men’s Hockey Club was held on Thursday, Mr. L. Old presiding over a good attendance... Mr. R. Evetts, on behalf of the club, heartily thanked Mr. - Old for attending the meeting at great inconvenience Mr. Old had come to the meeting from the New Plymouth Hospital that day and was returning next morning. That showed his great interest in the welfare of the club. Mr.' Evetts expressed the hope that Mr. Old would soon be well again. Mr. Evetts reported 'that in its first year the club had . a ..very , successful season, both on the field and financially. The credit balance of £6 10s lid. was very satisfactory considering the club commenced with no assets. A senior team was entered in the North Taranaki Division -and reached the- final, being beaten by Kaponga in the deciding game. That'was the result/of ■ solid training and consistent practice as most of the members were new to hockey at the commencement of the - season. The prospects at present, pointed toward an even better season this year., .. The report was adopted without discussion. , /
The election of officers’ resulted: Pat-, ron, Mr. J. Gibbs; pnesidept; Mr. L. Old; senior vice-president, Mr. G. Barry; secretary, Mr. Evetts; treasurer, Mr. V. Timms;, club captain, Mr. Timms; selection committee, Messrs J. Harris, Barry and Timms; delegates to centre, Messrs Evetts and Timms; committee, Messrs C. Shotter, Barry, ’Timms> D. Allen, Old and. Evetts. Mr., J. Harris. sen., will be asked to coach. '
" Subscriptions were fixed at 7s 6d for senior ' members and; 5s for; juniors, reducible by 2s 6d if paid by June 3. It was decided to hold the first practice on April >2 and a working bee at the ground in March to mark and improve the playing area. The club will co-op-erate with the ladies’' .club in . a dance and; euchre party. If all members paid their subscriptions promptly, with the', credit balance from the last' season, the secretary stated, funds would permit thfe'< paying of half the travelling expenses. Messrs W. Spurdie, G. Nicholls, ,L. and J. Harris, X ; Longbottqm, H. 'Pyne, L. Seabright and' N; Wright were elected members of the club.
