The Stratford sub-provincial executive of the Fanners’ Union is calling a monster meeting of factory managers, graders and others connected with the manufacture and marketing of dairy produce. The Farmers’ Union, says one of its officials, has awakened to the fact that it is not always a wise policy to trust implicitly to the Government and others who for the most part have little interest in the matter beyond the salary they are receiving. Consequently the union has come to the conclusion that in the interests of everyone concerned it would be wise to have more co-ordination among the factory managers, directors and suppliers combined with the graders in formulating a policy for presentation to the Government in order to effect a general improvement in the quality of dairy produce exported. It is considered that the farmers must in their own interests form the policy and force the hands of those who so far have failed to find a solution of the problems confronting the exporters of cheese from New Zealand. Suppliers, by attending this meeting will have a first-hand opportunity of getting the true facts in regard to the condition and quality of their dairy produce when sent to the grading stores, also its condition when presented for sale in Great Britain.* The meeting will be held in the Parish Hall next Tuesday.
