The Taranaki croquet tournament starts on. Monday and ■ indications point to record" entries. Several players from' Wellington will be playing, among whom are Mrs. Caldow, winner of the New Zealand ladies’ championship at the Dominion tournament, North Island ladies’ championship at Palmerston North and Wellington open championship at Wellington for the present season, and Mrs. Henderson, runner-up with Capt. Hartnell for the Dominion championship doubles and runner-up for the, Wellington open championship. Mesdames Lowery, Bocock, Mouat and Manton, all well-known players will also be entrants. Hawera will be represented by Mr. and Mrs. Gibbs, Mesdames Stevens and McKay, all well-known to New Plymouth players, while there will also be players from Auckland and Hamilton. Mrs. L. Brown will be partnered by Mrs. McKay (Hawera) and Mrs. Tingey will be playing with Mr. Gibbs in the championship doubles. Miss Beal, winner of the intermediate championship at Hawera, will play with Miss Washer, Hawera. Capt. Hartnell and Mrs. Cal-, dow will be playing together. Fitzroy Club Affairs. Last Thursday the Waitara Club sent a team to play friendly matches on han» dicaps with the Fitzroy members. Mesdames Bellringer and Chivers beat Mesdames Telfar and Fraser 26-24, Mesdames Loesch and Perrott beat Mesdames Sampson and Beckbessinger 26-24, Mrs. Bellringer lost to Mrs. Telfap 19-26, Mrs. Fraser v. Mrs. Chivers unfinished, and Mrs. Fuller v. Mrs. Pepper unfinished. A most enjoyable day was spent, although rain interfered with the games at the close of the day. New Plymouth Club. Mrs. Crawford is playing on form and in the Yankee tournament she beat Mesdames Hoskin, Vickers, Dinniss and Dunn. Mrs. Hoskin beat Mrs. Vickers and Mr. Dinniss, Mrs. Dinniss beat Mrs. Vickers, while Mrs. Vickers beat Mrs. Dunn. In the Curtis Cup matches Mrs. A. G. Johnson beat Mrs. Grove and Mrs. King.beat Miss Norpan. A very successful gala day was held on Thursday, when there were about 40 members and friends present. Golf croquet was played and several competitions were held. • Mrs. Grove won the golf, Mrs.. Brown the apples, Mrs. A. G. Johnson the target, Mrs. Hookham the trail and Mrs. • Morris the putting.' Afternoon, tea was served on the lawns. Pukekura Park. A golf croquet afternoon is to be held to-morrow, when an invitation is extended to all croquet players and their friends, especially to-any visitors for the coming tournament. Following is the result of play in the Home Rose Bowl. First round: We?t End beat Central, Pukekura Park beat Waitara, Kawaroa Park beat Fitzroy. Second round: West End beat Pukekura Park, Kawaroa beat New Plymouth. Final: West End beat Kawaroa. The final was played on Pukekura lawns and drew a large gallery. The Pukekura Club supplied refreshments and Mesdames Edgecombe, Bellringer (2) and Saunders were the hostesses for the day.
