RACING AT WANGANUI

eminent scores again CARNIVAL TO GOLDEN WINGS. ARVADA TAKES THE BRUNSWICK. TOTALISATOR RETURNS LOWER. The Wanganui meeting was concluded ©n Saturday in perfect weather and with a fast track. The fields were poor, no less than five of the seven events hav- ■ tog only five runners. The attendance ' of fire public though better than on the ■first day was not large. The totalisator bandied £B9OO 10s, against £8317 for the ■ same day last year, making the total ' for the meeting £14,922 10s, against {HKH6 last year, a decrease of £293 10s. Brown, Hawera. j Invictus was the first to get going and, he was soon showing the way to Riotous, Jayson, Calamine and Tenacre. Jayson moved up in the straight the first time and led Riotous, Calamine, Invictus and Tenacre, the whole field being well bunched. Calamine ran past Jayson at the five furlongs, bfit at the far turn Riotous had taken command and led into th> straight from Calamine, Jayson ana Tenacre. There was some crowding at the last fence, but once over Riotous and Tenacre fought it out, the latter winning by a length. Morris, MarI A good walk-in start was effected and Arena was the first to show out from Wasteland and Welcome Lu, but after 1 going two furlongs Wharaurangi ran to I the front with Arena, Welcome Lu and Wasteland fallowing. Arena had a slight advantage from Wharaurangi as they turned for home, with Welcome Lu moving up and Wasteland next. Arena was clear at the distance, but Welcome Lu issued a strong challenge and failed only by a head. Wasteland was three lengths away third with Hard Forrard fourth. BRUNSWICK HANDICAP. ' From a good despatch Pomp from the rails was first on to the course proper! from Arvada and View Halloo. Arvada soon took command and passing the five furlongs was two lengths in front of Pomp, View Halloo and Green Linnet. Coming round the far bend Green Linnet came up inside View Halloo into | third place and followed Arvada and Pomp into the straight Arvada, galloping well, soon had the race won, and just when Green Linnet and Pomp were having a great battle for the minor places View Halloo came along very fast and took second right on the post Bayacre was last. From another walk-in start Grand Jury, First Acre and Eminent began best. Passing the stand Grand Jury was showing the way to First Acre, Eminent, Richfield, High Falutin’ and Ganpat. Going down the back there was little change, Grand Jury and First Acre being two lengths clear of Eminent and Richfield, , who were a similar distance in t front of High Falutin’ and Shrewd. At t the far turn First Acre was falling back f and Richfield joined Grand Jury with Eminent, Shrewd and Brambletom mov- c ing up fast. Coming into the straight I Grand Jury, Richfield and Brambletom j were in lire, followed by Eminent, on j the rails, and Shrewd next. Bramble- a tom was in command at the distance, but Eminent wore him down to win by a neck. Three lengths further back came Richfield, just in front of Shrewd, Grand j Jury, Ganpat and High Falutin’. Midinette dwelt slightly when the tapes went up and Royal Routine and Golden Wings were quickest out from Arisus'and Aston. There was no change at the far turn except that Aston had run into third place. Golden Wings led Aston into the straight and went right away to win by four lengths from Aston, who was a length in front of Arisus. Midinette was a head away fourth and Royal Routine last.

Winner trained by O. Cox, Hawera. Might was first to show out but Haulbowline soon ran through to the front from Might and Bonnie Vale. There was little change round the far bend except that Nebulae and Peschiera had improved their positions and were showing up behind the leaders. Haulbowlins was first to turn for home, but Bonnie Vale and Might immediately ran past him. and then Peschiera put in his claim on the outside. In a good finish Peschiera got up to win from Bonny Vale, with Might a good third. Nebulae was fourth. INQUIRY AT WANGANUI. THE RIDING OF ROY REED. Wanganui, Last Night. After the second race, the Sedgebrook Juvenile Handicap, at the Wanganui Jockey Club’s meeting to-day an inquiry was opened into the running of Wasteland, ridden by R. Reed. After several adjournments it was decided at 8 tonight to adjourn till Monday afternoon in order to obtain the attendance of a , witness.
