PROTECTING COASTAL PORTS
FEAR OF LOW RAILWAY FREIGHTS, WANGANUI BOARD HEARS RUMOUR, By Telegraph.—-Press Association. ' Wanganui, Feb. 17. Mr. J. Hogan, chairman of the Wanganui Harbour Board, having heard • rumour that the Railways Board in revising its freights is cutting them to % very low and uneconomical rate, which It is feared will have a detrimental effect on the coastal trade, telegraphed Mr. W. A. Veitch, M.P., asking him to > tnake inquiries ascertaining the truth of the rumour and to take necessary steps In the protection of the coastal ports. Mr. Veitch replied that he was watchtnng the position carefully and would take up the matter immediately to protect public interests. ✓
