FRANKLEY ROAD NEWS

PERSONAL AND GENERAL. (From Our Own Correspondent.) Miss Barbara Burkett is in the New Plymouth Public Hospital. Mesdames Baker, Farnham and Allan motored to Manaia on Monday and spent the day with Mrs. A.,, Goodwin. Miss Dore has recovered from her recent indisposition. A meeting was held at Hurworth on Monday evening to elect a ladies’ committee to take charge of the stalls at the annual sports on March. Mesdames Farmer and Gilbert were elected. A euchre party-dance was held at Hurworth on Wednesday evening in aid of the hall funds. While a large number of couples were dancing in the main hall euchre was played.in the supper room. The prizes for euchre were won by Mrs. R. Cole 1, Mrs. Thorpe (New Plymouth) 2, after playing off with Mrs. C. Blizgard; Master Leo. Salisbury 1, Mrs. J. Burkett 2. Miss Martin and Mr. Home supplied the music. Miss Lovegrove playing an “extra.” There were visitors from Westown, and Mangorei Mr. Dick Smith was master of ceremonies. After euchre, a home-made supper was served, and then dancing was resumed. A euchre party was held at Frankleigh Park on Thursday, 4J tables being occupied. The ladies’ prizes were won by Mrs. McGivan 1, Mrs. Tippins 2, Miss Cole consolation, and the men’s prizes by Mr. King 1, Mr. C. Kenny 2, Mr. Williams consolation.

Mr. Len Taylor, who broke his leg a few weeks ago, is progressing favourably in the New Plymouth hospital. Miss Alehin, Auroa, is visiting her sister, Mrs. Sturgeon. Building operations have commenced on Mr. McGivan’s new home on Veale Road.

Mushrooms are plentiful in the Frankley Road district.
