Dunedin, Last Night.

A four-roomed cottage occupied by an elderly couple, Mr. and Mrs. Nicolson, was destroyed by fire early yesterday morning at Company Bay, about eight miles from Dunedin on the road to Portobello. The mysterious feature of the outbreak is that the occupants have not since been seen, but a close examination of the debris disclosed no signs of charred remains, although exhaustive inquiries by the police reveal no trace of the Nicolsons. The opinion of the police is that the occupants of the house perished; otherwise some trace would have been found jn the ruins. Mr. Nicolson recently retired from the Public Works Department at Alexandra, and as he had been residing only a short time at Company Bay he was not well known in the district
