Fryer-Raisher has taken up his duties as headmaster of the Ratapiko school The school attendance is at pre- • sent causing some anxiety to the committee. The district is fortunate in having two first-class teachers, and it is to be hoped that the attendance will be well maintained and that it will not be necessary to reduce the staff. Mr. Arthur Grigg, -who has been in the New Plymouth hospital, is spending a holiday at Wanganui. Mr. and Mrs. Moore and children, Dannevirke, motored to Ratapiko and were the guests of Mrs. _O. Wilson, “Egmont View,” for the week-end. Mr. Harry Martin left on Tuesday morning for Auckland. Trout are still plentiful in the lake and' a fine fish weighing 6Jlb. was landed by Mr. Bill Wells 'during the week. There was a full attendance at the tennis club meeting on Wednesday night, when it was decided to hold a gala day in aid of funds on February 23. Mr. J. Wells offered the use of his grounds and the offer was accepted. Mr. Wells’ property, which is situated alongside the lake at Ratapiko, is an ideal spot for a gala day. A cement wall runs around the lake, and with steps leading down to the water it forms a natural swimming bath. The beautifully laid-out gardens and lawns should prove an attraction in themselves. The tennis club has arranged an extensive programme of aquatic events, tennis tournament and numerous novelty events, including a “rooster race,” etc., and if the weather is favourable a most enjoyable day’s sport will be provided. The social committee has arrangements well in hand for the dance and euchre party to be held in the even* ins. •"
