MRS. A. ALEXANDER ENTERTAINS. MISS STEVENSON HONOURED. , A .delightful' “at .horn?" and garden party was given by Mrs. A. Alexander at her home, “Ao-tea-roa,” New Plymouth, on Thursday afternoon, in honour of Miss Jean Stevenson, , the national secretary of the Y.W.C.A. of New Zealand, who is visiting New Plymouth. Croquet competitions were held in the garden, and after afternoon tea Miss Stevenson gave a short talk about the world-wide movement of the Y.W.C.A., tracing its romantic history from the early Victorian days until the present time, when it is known as the largest arid most comprehensive young women’s movement in the world. Miss Stevenson appealed for the interest of all in youth and in the maintenance of all constructive youth, work in the community. Mrs. Alexander, who is president of the New Plymouth association, appealed for the help of those present in the girls’ appeal on Friday, either as collectors and badge-sellers, or as contributors of produce and cakes. Miss Greenwell, general secretary of the Y.W.C.A. at New Plymouth, also spoke.’ Among those present were Archdeacon and Mrs. Evans, Mrs. Skinner, Mrs. C. H.
