SWIMMING CARNIVAL HELD
SUCCESSFUL CARNIVAL HELD STRATFORD’S INTER-CLUB RELAY. DIVING EVENTS TO HOME CLUB. . The success that attended the swimming carnival held by the Stratfor club early in January found repetition in that staged in the baths last night before' a large attendance. There was a representative section from other parts of the province. The weather was fine but a little chilly. ■< xv t. +v. Entries were excellent and the batns, surrounded by tiers of excited spectators and busy officials, offered an animated scene beneath strings of coloured lights that were reflected by the water. Punctuality was apparent during the whole evening. Close finishes were a feature in nearly all events. Details are: — Junior boys,'2s yards:-First heat: R. Harrison (E) 2s 1, W. Davis (S) 2s 2; 17s. Music was played by the Ambassadors and Mr. M. Thompp son was master of ceremonies. X ■ PERSONAL ITEMS. The staff of the Public Works Department at Stratford on Wednesday afternoon farewelled Mr. C. B. Hornig, who has been transferred to Wellington. On behalf of the staff, Mr. P. Keller presented Mr. Hornig with a wallet. Mr. P. Hunter, Stratford, underwent an operation at a Stratford private hospital yesterday. His condition is satisfactory.
