As a result of the protest made at a meeting of the Otago Education Board on Wednesday morning regarding the powers given school committees to suspend teachers a report was forwarded to the Minister of Education yesterday morning. The chairman of the Otago Board (Mr. James Wallace) has received the following reply: “With reference to Clause 4 of the Education Amendment Bill, through a misunderstanding power is given to school committees to suspend teachers for neglect of duties, etc. This was not intended and steps are now being taken to amend the clause in the committee stage.”
