PICNIC AT KAIMIRO

ENJOYABLE DAY AT THE SCHOOL. • NEW TEACHERS WELCOMED. The annual picnic of the Kaimiro school in the picturesque school grounds yesterday proved thoroughly enjoyable, the settlers giving the children a memorable day. There was a representative attendance, the picnic being in the nature of a district one. The weather was not promising in the morning but later it proved a beautiful day. The conunittee, comprising Messrs. F. Mundt (chairman), L. Gopperth (secretary), H. Shoemark, L. Schicker and E Hinz and Mrs. G. Pope, assisted ’by the school teachers (Misses G. 'Bayly and M. Armstrong) had prepared a lengthy programme of. sports for young and old, and it was completed well to time. Mr. Shoemark was starter, Miss Gibson handicapper, Messrs. Leo Butler, E. Hinz and H. G. Taylor judges. Messrs. W. Dempsey and J. McAdam controlled the chain stepping. With scrambles for nuts, gifts of lollies, apples and ice-creams the children were well looked after, the culminating point being the afternoon tea provided by the residents of the district and served in the hall opposite the school The tables were decorated by Mesdames J. McAdam and G Pope. The afternoon tea committee comprised Mesdames F. Mundt, H. Shoemark, W. Dempsey, G. Shortland, J. McAdam, G. Pope, L. Gopperth, A. H. Taylor, L. Taylor and L. Schicker, Misses H. Gibson, Olsen, G. Bayly and M. Armstrong. Mr. H. G. Taylor had charge of the soft drinks and ice. cream stall which did good business. The races resulted:— Young ladies’ race: Miss M. There was a splendid attendance at the hall last night when a dance was held to conclude the proceedings. Mr. L Gopperth was master of ceremonies. The music was played by Mrs Trask, with extras by Messrs. J. Gopperth and.F. Schicker. Opportunity was taken during the evening by Mr. Mundt to extend a welcome on behalf of the district to the new teachers, Miss G. Bayly (head teacher) and Miss M. Armstrong (assistant).
