ACTIVITIES OF THE W.D.F.U.

INGLEWOOD BRANCH MEETING. The Inglewood branch of the,Women’s Division held its meeting in the Parish Hall on February 8, when Mrs. Marsh presided. Owing to the unavoidable absence of the honorary secretary (Mrs. Allen), Miss McMahon acted in that capacity. Invitations were received for the Bell Block garden party and the Matau branch’s second birthday party. An endeavour will be made for the Inglewood branch to be represented at both functions. Mrs. Marsh reported that 40 books, being part of the latest donation from the Inglewood library,. were despatched to Matau for Christmas, and 40 books were sent to Makahu the previous week. Further exchange boxes would' be despatched to Brixton, Okoke, Uruti and Mokau, in the near future,’ Mrs. Mar-, shall, Mountain Road, made a special donation which enabled this organisation to purchase several new editions for distribution among women in the back country. A letter of appreciation from the Inglewood Chamber of Commerce was read, eulogising the work and help of the division towards making the Christmas tree function the success it proved to be. " > Mrs, Marsh appealed to members to support the mart in aid of the Rest Room either by donating produce, buying or tendering a membership subscription to help the committee in its efforts to keep open those useful rooms. At' the same time opinions were expressed that were the Rest Rooms and' Plunket rooms, as in other towns, in the same buildings, the paying of dual rents could be avoided. The meeting decided.to send £8 as a donation to the community chest. A resolution was' passed that a letter be sent to the Taranaki Education Board wholeheartedly supporting the Inglewood and country districts’ committees ,in their request that a district high school be established at Inglewood for children who under the present force of circumstances cannot possibly avail themselves of the privilege elsewhere. • It was unanimously decided that. Mrs. Marsh unfold her scheme before thesecretary of the Taranaki Agricultural Society regarding the advisability of holding a Women’s , Division court at the winter show, and if favourably received, the 22 other Women’s Division branches in North Taranaki would be asked’ to co-operate in exhibiting the work of the Women’s Division members. With the idea of reviving the “all wool campaign” Mrs. .Crofski exhibited a beautifully covered “wool down” quilt. It was resolved to purchase for the branch a pair of wool carders to facilitate for members the teasing of the scoured wool. The president acquainted the . meeting with the result of the bush nurse and housekeepers’ meeting held this quarter in Timaru, where the Dominion Secretary reported that 64 housekeeping- engagements had beqn fulfilled, all most satisfactorily, and that 30 cases had had financial assistance from the community chest. Time did not permit for further details of the January conference held at Timaru which, however, will be reported at the March meeting; An exhibition of dust caps revealed many hovel and useful, patterns of this most useful accessory to good housekeeping.
