Baron von Martens, a noted figure in society before the Great War, to-day committed suicide in a poor-house to which he and his wife were driven by destitution. The bayon during the war inherited a fortune of £12,000,000, all of which was dissipated during the war and the subsequent inflation and crash in the value of securities.
