THE RAGWORT MENACE.

(To the Editor.)

Sir,—lf the Inspector of Noxious Weeds would come northward, on the road to Auckland, he would see many flourishing plants of ragwort on the roadside, not to mention what is hidden from view further back. A correspondent mentioned the large area of ragwort to be seen from the Okoke Road, and there are other areas farther north. The most effectual method for destroying this weed, so far as I know, is to spray it with a solution of chlorate of sodium, four ounces to one gallon of water. If the plant is thoroughly sprayed with such a solution it will be destroyed, and if in flower the seeds will not germinate.—l am, etc., PRO BONO PUBLICO. Uruti, February 10.
