CANDID FACTS ABOUT STOCKS. WHY YOU OFTEN GET SNIPS. We have been very busy these last few days going carefully through our stocks in order to ascertain as near as possible our requirements for the next six months. Naturally the recent exchange rises and Sales Tax have somewhat complicated matters, but we have always held rigidly to the doctrine that goods must not be allowed to become old in our stockrooms, and before every stocktaking we go carefully through to see what must be cleared out. More often than otherwise in our trade it is not the fault of the goods or designs that keep these lines in stock, but with ever-changing goods some are overlooked. It may only be six or nine months, but in the eyes of the salesman they are old, even though there are dozens of people who are looking for just those same kind of things. All the same they have to go and we have been very drastic with these lines, most of them not 12 months in stock. The rise in exchange and Sales Tax > actually makes the replacement value of these lines worth 4/- in the £ more and yet we have actually reduced prices from 25 per cent, to 50 per cent, in many cases because out they must go.
