CHAMPIONSHIP POLO MATCH.

FITZROY A v. NEW PLYMOUTH ,B. The weekly club night of the New Plymouth Swimming Club was held last night, there being a' good attendance in spite of rather wintry conditions. The results of aggregate races were: — . 33 1-3 yards junior girls: J. Feakins 1, D. Herdman 2, D. Jordan 3.50 yards junior boys: P. Hannan 1, K. Anthony (scr) 3. 50 yards intermediate: E. Todd 1, H. Watson 2, M. Ulenberg.and E. Parsons dead-heat 3. 66 2-3 yards girls’ handicap. J. Richards son 1, P. Mangham 2, J. Pepperill 3. A further match in the northern division of the Dalgleish Cup senior polo championship was played at the end of the- club night, Fitzroy A beating New Plymouth B by four goals to nil. The teams were;—Fitzroy A: W. J. Toomey; W. J. Thomas, R. Clayton; C. H. Plumtree; H. J. Thomas, C. G. Campbell, W. F. Harlow. New Plymouth B: J. Hetherington; W. Rimmington, L. Rea; C. Hoskin; H. South, R. Gayton, R. Perkins. Fitzroy A defended the shallow end and went to the attack immediately, Thomas beating the goalie with a well-pitched shot. Fitzroy swam in again and after a shot by Campbell had removed the bar Thomas went up into the goal-mouth and deflected the ball into the comer. Thomas scored a third goal shortly afterwards and the score was 3—o at halftime. New Plymouth did more attacking in the second spell, Perkins, South and Gayton all making attempts to score. Play travelled again to the New Plymouth end, where a ‘‘free for all” found eight men in the goal mouth. The goal stood the pressure, Rimmington and Rea aiding Hetherington well in defence, but in a general splash Harlow flicked the ball past Hetherington and the game finished Fitzroy A 4, New Plymouth B 0.
