FLOODS DAMAGE RAILWAY
TRAIN JUST STOPPED IN TIME. QUEENSLAND RAIN CONTINUES. By. Telegraph—Press Assn.—Copyright. Brisbane, Feb. 13. Continued heavy rains in the Herbert and Tully areas caused the Herbert and Tully Rivers to rise steadily. The former is- six feet over the bridge at Herberton and the Tully is nine feet over the Tully bridge. Flood conditions prevail along the Bellenden plains, where the railway line is submerged to a depth of three feet for a considerable distance. As the western mail was approaching a flooded creek .near Marathon the bridge over the water collapsed, but the train was stopped in time. Breakdown gangs have been unable to reach the disabled train because of further washaways on each side.
