FARM WORKER’S DEATH

FOUND LYING IN A PADDOCK. ACCIDENT OR AN ILLNESS. A coronial inquiry into the death of Lewis Coleman, a young farm labourer who died in the New Plymouth hospital on Thursday, was opened before Mr. W. H, Woodward, S.M., on Saturday. Evidence of identification having been given by Eric L. Edwards, a brother-in-law, the inquest was adjourned until next Saturday morning. It appears that Coleman, whose age was 17, had been ‘ working for about eight months on A. G. Martin’s farm, Smart Road. About 10.45 on Thursday morning Martin found him lying in a paddock, in which there was a' horse. Either he had had an accident, or had been overcome suddenly by illness. He died at 3 o’clock the same day in the New Plymouth hospital. Coleman had always enjoyed good health, said Edwards, who had last seen him alive in hospital at 1.15 p.m. He was then conscious and entered into a conversation, but he had nothing to say about an accident. Senior Sergeant Turner represented the police at the inquest.
